Radiotherapy after op.

I had a thymoma canceroma removed on September 24th. Today it was suggested I needed 4 weeks of radiotherapy treatment. Do I go ahead and start it start away or wait till after christmas when family are coming. Can anyone tell me their side effects and how bad and how long they had them ?

thanks

  • Hello Strongself

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had a thymoma removed and that you're now facing the prospect of radiotherapy. I hope that your recovery from the surgery has progressed well.

Did the Consultant recommend that radiotherapy is started within a particular time frame of the surgery? Obviously Christmas is still a few weeks away yet and the team may not recommend that you wait that long to start treatment if you decide to go ahead.

We do have some information on our website about radiotherapy which may be helpful but in the meantime, I'd suggest giving our team of nruses a call to chat things through with them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Whatever decision you make about the treatment, I hope that things go smoothly for you.

    Best wishes,
