Referred to Breast clinic I’m 22

So last night I noticed a lump in my right breast, I went to the gp today and she has referred me within 1 month . I am so so scared and my anxiety is through the roof . She did say not to be concerned & nothing to worry about but how can I not be I am terrified I don't know how I'm going to get though the days , she did say could be cysts or fibroadenoma but that fact they have referred me scars me and I am thinking the worst

  • Hi Victoria, I understand your fear, the GP has to refer you, I understand that is their guidance. Your age is so on your side and it's very likely it is a cyst or fibroid(whatever) lol. Please try not to worry, most referrals for lumps and I do mean most are benign and at your age, even more so. Please take comfort in that. I know it's easy to say don't worry, but please just enjoy yourself while you wait, you have statistics on your side - hugs Mickey xx

    Hi Victoria,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your anxiety.  I hope that you can take some comfort from what MickeyM has said. Only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis and the younger you are, the less likely this is to happen. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many are benign cysts, hormonal or fibrous changes. Some ladies also have naturally lumpy breasts.

We all tend to feel terrified and over-emotional at this stage and our imaginations tend to lead us to all sorts of dark places. Fortunately, this seldom happens. Whatever you do, don't go on google, as this will only scare you rigid. Much of the inforation is out of date, poorly researched and aimed at the spectacular cases.

Try to keep yourself as busy as you can. this should help the waiting time to pass.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
