Suprise doctors visit

Hi all hope you don't mind me sharing but need to talk to someone not family.

I was tending to my son 7 when my husband freaked he noticed a large lump in my lowered throat I hadn't really noticed before. I have a history as throat issues as a child and suffer depression and ebpd so tend to ignore most things.

Anyway I assumed he was making something out of nothing but ended up having a emergency doctors emergency appointment. The mass is approx the size of a large egg at the bottom of my throat and can be seen without feeling it. I have been sleeping a lot recently and headaches but linked many issues to my other conditions. I'm now having a barrage of appointment in the next few weeks  doctor is pushing it through as urgent. She told me at best I have  either a large cyst, or a growth near my thyroid. At worst  she can't rule out cancer. To say I'm shocked is a understatement I still feel like they are worrying over nothing and finding it hard to accept what it maybe, with 3 children under 12 my life's alway a whirlwind  not sure I'm ready to deal with this as well.

how does everyone else cope with something like this?

  • Not sure if it is thyroid cancer or some other form of cancer they are considering.

If it is thyroid cancer, then I have had some experience of that. Apparently, it is often found incidentally. In my case, it was found when I went to the doctor about something else entirely and he noticed a lump on my neck.

Thyroid cancer isn't exactly what you may be imagining when you hear cancer. It is generally treated with surgery, very rarely is chemotherapy or radiotherapy used and the most common forms have a near 100% survival rate among younger people (under about 50).

And most cysts that are found on thyroids are not cancerous. Again of course, I am not sure if they think the cyst is on your thyroid or just near it.
