Newbie - found out I have benign tumour. What does this mean

Hello my name is chlo. Im 29 and recently just told I had a benign tumour. Trying to understand and learn more about this. Would love to hear your stories.

  • Hi,

I had 3 lumps, two were unfortunately cancer but the third was benign. What I was told was the benign lump would just be left alone and didn't require any further treatment as it was not cancerous. But that was just my experience. It may be worth contacting your medical team for further clarification.

    Hi Iamchlo,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am delighted to hear that youor tumour is benign. This is the best news that you can get. It means that there is no cancer present. There are a lot of different benign conditions. Some need further treatment, whilst others don't. Your consultant should have discussed this with you. Do you have any more appointments? If not, please discuss this with your GP. S/he will have received a report from the hospital and will be able to tell you more. Don't be afraid to ask any questions if you don't understand.

Even though you've had this good news, you need to check your breasts regularly and to see your GP if you notice any changes.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello,

Thanks for the warm welcome. When I had the news I wanted to talk to people so got directed here.

Glad to hear it is non cancerous.

The doctor informed me that I was producing high levels of prolactin and with my symptoms that are getting worse each year he suggested I go for a MRI to see how big the tumour is on my pituitary gland. It is causing lots of symptoms and has been making me ill for years. Symptoms were getting worse and worse and it was only until I said to doctors that I wanted to try for a baby did they listen to me and take action. Previous to my lack of cycles which were deteriorating and causing so many problems the specialists just continued to put me on the pill to 'get a period'. Since researching everything and getting a bit more confindence I took action and was persistent in getting help.

Im currently being refered to a endocrinologist, the optitions to monitor my vision, more blood tests and scans.

    Thanks again for messaging :)

  • Hey

    Thanks for the reply :)

Oh I am sorry to hear the two were cancerous.

    How are you doing currently?

The doctor informed me that I was producing high levels of prolactin and with my symptoms that are getting worse each year he suggested I go for a MRI to see how big the tumour is on my pituitary gland. It is causing lots of symptoms and has been making me ill for years. Feels like theres finally progress but still feel a bit curious to know more about the tumour and understand it.

Plus just wanted someone to talk to after the news.

    Thanks again for messaging.

    Hi,

I am glad to hear that you are being referred for further tests and hope that the endocrinologist can get to the bottom of the problem. I am sure that the longer this goes on the more desperate you must be to fall pregnant and, I hope that this happens soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine.

Just desperate to feel better and loose the symptoms. Of course having a little one would be lovely but I don't feel well most days so to have some normality back in my life would be nice.

    Will keep you update
