Day 96 and counting

I've been diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer and hoped for treatment within the 62 day target, which it is expected will be met in 85% of cases. stayed calm until day 93. I still have no date for surgery and am now completely losing it. I have been told that my cancer is an aggresive one which will mean radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery. Fortunately only at stage 1B but the longer time goes on the more I imagine it spreading. The specialist nurse seems to take my asking for a firm date as a criticism of their service and the way it works. As a carer I need to be able to plan care for my daughter for when I go into hospital, but just can't get a date. Specialist nurse says they will ring me when they have one. Consultants secretary says not on list for next week or week after. Lists not done for w/c 22nd onwards. Is everywhere this slow or am I juust very unlucky.

  • The surgeons sec was great when l was waiting for my removal of overies, she asked the nurse specialist questions for me and rang me back. My surgeon holds and pulls her own list meaning they can't see it but she sent emails to her asking when l would be admitted then let me know. I ended up with extensive adhesions that took 4 1/2 hrs to remove cancelling the rest of the list. The surgeon is ringing me on Wednesday for my 4 week follow up. I'm surprised that they can't give you some idea when you can expect surgery l knew from my June appointment that it would be September/Oct it could have been quicker if l had gone with the other surgeons. You could speak to the Pals team at the hospital they are good at sorting this type of delay.

  • Thank you, Susie. September/ October sounds like a long time from June.

I'm just desperate to get this cancer out and feel abandoned, with no date for surgery. I will try PALS tomorrow. Whats the point of having timescales if they mean nothing?
