Recall

Hi ladies. So I am 66yrs old and was asked to attend the breast clinic after my recent mammogram. There is no lump but the images show a small mass or shadow but nothing that can be felt. I had a more in depth mammogram then an ultrasound. The doctor then came in and took a couple of biopsies and put in a marker.  To be honest Im not telling anybody, apart from my husband, because there really isnt anything to tell at this point and I just dont want to worry friends and family until I know if there is anything to worry about. The statistics are in our favour I think as the majority of results are negative for cancer. I dont know if I'm being very naive or stupid . I'm just going to keep busy until I get the results and then I will deal with it but at the moment I'm staying positive. Booked a couple of days away and then having a girlfriend visit so keep my mind off it till results come back. Sending you all lots of love and positive thoughts. Take care.xxx

    Hi Nancy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

THis is always a worrying time and it sounds as if you are doing all the right things. Have you been told when you will get your results? You are right that the statistics are in your favour, with only 1 person in every 8 who attend the breast clinic receiving a cancer diagnosis. It is normal to have a marker inserted at the time of your biopsy, so don't let this worry you.

It is good that you are keeping busy, as this helps the waiting time to pass. I hope that you enjoy your wee break and  then the time with your girlfriend.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Here's hoping for good news!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thank you for getting back to me .

I have been given an appointment on 24th November to discuss  results so it's 3 weeks from biopsy. The nurse did say I may get a call if they have a cancellation or results come back sooner.

I will let you know once I have had the results.

    Best wishes

    Nancy

    Hi Nancy,

Three weeks is a long time to wait for your results, so I hope that they are back sooner and you manage to get a cancellation.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

I managed to get an earlier appointment and was seen today. Sadly it is cancer, which really isn't what I was expecting.  However its a small mass measuring about half an inch, and it is non aggressive. It has been caught early so I'm very positive. I'm now waiting for an appointment at my local hospital for surgery and depending on results radiotherapy rather than chemo.

    I will keep you posted

    Hi Nancy,

I am glad to hear that you managed to bring your appointment forward, but not so glad to hear of the outcome. How are you feeling about this? It is not at all unusual to feel angry, in denial and 'why me?' You will gradually come to terms with it.

Do you know what type of cancer it is? It is good tat it is not an aggressive type and you have caught it early. You won't know what type of treatment is planned, until you get the results of the Pathology tests, which will be done on some of your tissue at the tme of your operation.

Breast cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer nowadays, so it is all perfectly doable. I have had two bouts in the past 12 years and still live a busy and fulfilled life. Please remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

I have an appointment to see a consultant at the hospital on 3rd Dec. Do you think it is likely that they will do the op before Christmas.  I'm not sure how long you normally have to wait. I guess I will get lots of questions answered on the 3rd.

    I will keep you posted.

    Best wishes

    Hi Nancy,

It really is impossible to tell. I expect that this appointment will be to discuss your operation and treatment. At a guess, I would think it unlikely, but you could still be lucky enough to get it sooner. A lot seems to depend on where in the country you are situated and how badly Covid is impacting upon your area.

If you have any questions, you will find it helpful to write them down before you go for your appointment. It is all too easy to forget something important in the heat of the moment.

Please let us know how you get on.
    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

    Thank you for that.

I will definitely write down all my questions, as you say so easy to forget something. I really hope it's done before Christmas but as you say it's a bit of a lottery so I will just have to wait and see.

I will be in touch after the 3rd.

    Best wishes
