Referral for ? Subungual melanoma

Recently my GP referred me to a consultant with a query subungual melanoma on my big right to the cuticle has a portion that is black and my toe at the base is black and red and there is a diagonal black line from the right side of the total wards the middle. I am rather scared. I had a mastectomy in 2015 of my breast cancer has completely gone but naturally I'm fearful that this might be cancer again. Has anybody any experience of this? I am so grateful to anyone

  • Hello scribblinglady and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear you are feeling a bit scared after your GP referred you so that they can look at this toe more closely. It's good that they are being thorough in their investigations. I can understand why given what you went through before you find yourself fearful again but I keep everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine for you.

I hope you get to see the consultant soon. The best thing to do while you are waiting to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. Keep well away from any online pictures of toes ! I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
