Dear all,
A few days ago I recieved the dreaded letter that informed me I was HPV positive and there were changes to some of my cells called high grade (moderate) dyskaryosis. This was a routine smear and I didn't have any symptoms. It left me a bit shell shocked
I instantly went into full blown panic mode worrying about what would happen, the treatment and what they had found.
I now had to wait for the letter to come from my local Colposcopy Department whilst I was waiting I googled the life out of high grade moderate dyskarosis and found other people's experiences to be of comfort to me.
After a few days I recieved a call from the hospital to see if I would be willing to attend the next morning as a cancellation had come up. I agreed to go as I prefered to go see rather than the waiting.
Today i went to my local hospital for treatment and I was a nervous wreck however from the moment I walked into the room the 3 staff in there really looked after me and treated me with the most compassionate care.
They talked me through everything that was going to happen and never made me feel rushed.
After getting ready in the chair the consultant told me I had only a small area on my cervix that had been affected but it looked like CIN 2 and would need removing. I had the choice of removing it there and then or going back as I was already set up I decided to have the treatment straight away.
The treatment was fine I didn't feel any pain just a bit of a pinch from the local anesthetic before I know it it was all over and done with. I was debriefed by one of the nurses and the consultant came in to say they would send everything off to the lab and I would get the results in a couple of weeks time and she said she didn't see anything concerning and expected I would just need to go for my follow up smear in 6 months.
Fingers crossed for good results in two weeks time.
I hope this helps reassure other people going through this.
