16cm Cyst

I have a rather large cyst on my left Overy which I am currently waiting to have surgically removed. I was due to have surgery back in 2019 but when Covid hit it got postponed. I have since had 2 more pre assessment appointments my last being in September 2021. I am so worried about it bursting or becoming more serious. It was 16cm when it was last checked back in 2019. I have no idea what size it is now. Because of the size I will have to have my tube and Overy removed. No one seems to want to do another scan to find out if it has grown anymore in size. I am worrying every day and the longer I have to wait the more scared I am becoming.

  • Hello Nicola8821 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat!

16cm that is indeed a large cyst. I am sorry to hear that your initial surgery was postponed because of covid. I can completely understand why you are feeling that you would like to have it checked again to see whether it has grown in size since 2019. Perhaps you could try and call your GP and mention that it is making you really anxious not to know whether it has grown since 2019 and you could perhaps ask whether you could have another scan? You could also try and talk to another doctor about this and seek a second opinion and mention that you would be reassured if they gave you another scan.

The long waiting game for your surgery can be nerve-wracking and I hope that you will be able to have the procedure soon. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  •  feel comforted by the fact that you have not been an emergency case. the fact that they have been able to delay suggests that the doctors are not concerned I think

I am a GP and I know that anything that looks cancerous just cannot be left that long- they would have had to get you in and operate- covid or not.

    Fingers crossed
