Incidental find- thickening breast tissue

Hello,

I received a call-back from hospital last week, after an anomaly was noticed on one of my breasts on a chest X-ray ( for something unrelated)

During my initial consultation, I asked what it was and was told that it was gas/air? When called back, I was told it was too high to be gas/air.

i was relieved when the nurse practitioner  said she could feel no lumps or bumps and I've had no symptoms. However, when she discussed with the consultant, they felt a referral to the breast clinic would be necessary.

when I told her I felt positive as she'd found nothing, she said there was slight thickening. I wish she'd said that from the off, as I now wonder if she hasn't been completely straight with me?

Dont get me wrong, I'm glad it's been picked up, but it's still worrying me.

    A very warm welcome to our forum.

    I am sorry to hear about your anxiety. It is just as well that this thickening has been picked up. It could be something or nothing, but if it is something, the sooner you catch it, theeasier it should be to treat. We nearly all become anxious and over emotional when we are waiting to be seen at the breast clinic, so try not to worry about that. 

    It is a positive sign that the nurse didn't feel anything. It is also a fact that only 1 person in 8 who is referred to the breast clinic will get a breast cancer diagnosis.

    I hope that you don't have long to wait for your appointment. You should usually be seen within 2 weeks of referral, but this is taking a little longer in some areas, due to Covid. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Hi Splats,

    I hope that you are enjoying your holiday. I hope that your appointment comes through for next week. Are you aware that you may not get any results at your first appointment? Very occasionally the consultant can tell you straight away, but in most instances we have to have a series of tests first. It usually takes another 1-2 weeks before we get the results of these.

    Good morning Jolamine,

    Interestingly, I'm out visiting a friend who was working in an oncology unit back in the UK.

    She told me the same as you.

    I'm trying to keep as positive and busy as possible ( thanks to the other posts I've read on here)
