Newly diagnosed

Hi, I am a 69 yr old, I had an intestinal blockage which was due to adhesions and scar tissue from previous surgeries for crohns.  When my surgeons operated they sent the area to pathology as were unsure about the cells.  Anyway two weeks ago I got the result, I had adenocarcinoma cells in the blockage. I have been told all was removed with a good margin all round, but there is always the chance cells have escaped. I had a CT scan before coming home and all was clear at the time.  I am now waiting to see oncology to discuss where we go from here.

  • Hello Puremagic

I'm sorry to hear that your recent surgery showed the intestinal blockage you had contained adenocarcinoma cells. It's understandable that you may have questions and mixed feelings about this news. It's good to hear that the Surgeon was able to get clear margins and that the CT scan didn't raise any concerns. Hopefully, your appointment with the Oncologist will be able to give you some reassurance about the next steps.

In the meantime, I wondered if you thought it might be helpful to chat things through with one of our team of nruses ahead of that oncology appointment. I'm sure the nurses will be happy to offer any information and advice that they can as well as help you think about any additional question you might want to raise with the Consultant. If you'd like to chat with our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch Puremagic and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
