Reoccurring abnormal cells

Hi everyone,

last November 20 I went for my first ever smear at age 26. Since then I received results that I had low - moderate changes along with the HPV virus. I had the patch of cells removed through cold coagulation in March 21. I was scheduled for a follow up smear in September 21, results from which came back with low grade changes and HPV still present.

This worries me that they are reoccurring as most websites say 9/10 ladies won't have reoccurring changes. Any advice on how to get rid of HPV or what to expect at my next appointment would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello JB1994 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry your latest smear results have come back as low grade cell changes and HPV despite the treatment you had in March.

Sometimes this can happen so try not to worry if you can. I know that's much easier said than done but I hope these HPV FAQs will help put your mind at ease. Our lovely team of cancer nurses are also very knowledgeable in this field so if you'd like to speak with them about this they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and offer reassurance to you as well.

Wishing you all the best with your next appointment JB1994.

    Kind regards,
