My Mum , newly diagnosed stage 3c NSCLC

Hello everyone, hope you are all ok.

My mum has just been diagnosed with stage 3c NSCLC, Im a bit lost. She is so breathless already, i think because it has spread to the lymph nodes in her chest cavity, pressing on her windpipe. I work for the nhs, so know more and have access to more than i probably need to at this time.

I want to do so much with her, before her time comes. But dont want to force her either. Am i being a bit selfish? I just want to make memories with my mum.

  • Hi hannahcringe123,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to hear of the situation with your mum. I can only imagine how difficult this must be and no doubt there must be a lot of emotions and rawness at the moment.

It's not selfish at all to feel that way - it shows how much you care and how much you want to make the most of your time with her. It may perhaps be a case of, initially at least, taking things a day at a time - getting all the information and next steps (if you haven't already) and going from there.

You can in part gauge how she's feeling, and from there you can find the opportunities to do things you both enjoy, to have conversations, and so on.

Do of course be sure to look after yourself too among everything. Hopefully this forum can be some small support to you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
