Recalled for another mammogram

Hi everyone

When I was 15, I had a large fibroadenoma removed from my right breast. Then 2 years ago when I was 42, I had another fibroadenoma removed again from the same breast, this time with questionable pathology.

A month or so ago I've been having a lot of dull aches and pains in the same breast so I was referred for a mammogram and ultrasound where blocked ducts were found and nothing more sinister. I even had a letter from the hospital to confirm this.

Imagine my shock last week when the hospital called and said that another doctor has since looked at my scans and they want me to go back for another mammogram. I really should have asked more questions as to why but think I was just shocked.

Anyone else experienced this? My appointment is next week so not too long to wait.

thank you

Gx

    Hi Geranium,

A very warm welcome to our forum. Unfortunately, recalls like this do occur from time to time. Try not to panic - not all recalls indicate something untoward. Sometimes things don't show up as clearly as they should and a further mammogram is needed to make sure that all is still ok.

It sounds as if you have had problems with your breast from a young  age and I'm delighted to hear that nothing sinister has been found so far.  When are you due to go back to the hospital? I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine - your reply has already made me feel a bit more reassured, so thank you!

My appointment is Wednesday morning next week (and I'm so please it is first thing so I don't sit all day waiting!) I will keep you updated.

  • I just had my letter and I'm having an XR mammogram extended view LT (whatever this is?!)

  • Hi Geranium,

I'm glad to hear that you don't have too long to wait. Having an early morning appointment should save a lot of additional worry.

Here's hoping that all turns out well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Geranium, The x-ray arm rotates and curves around the breast, taking multiple x-ray pictures at different angles. This information is then sent to a computer where it makes the pictures into 3D images (3D mammogram). This can make it easier to see any overlapping breast tissue more clearly. Kind regards, Jolamine xx
