Newly diagnosed lymphoma

Hi Im Kate, 25.

after a year of abnormal bruising on my legs and swollen lymph nodes in increasing places around my body I have just received diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma :(. I've got a bone marrow biopsy scheduled in 6 days, and although the diagnosis is scary, what I'm most scared about is this biopsy.I've read such horrible stories about this procedure and cannot seem to go a minute without thinking about it! I'd be grateful if anyone could give honest advice about what it will really be like.

  • Hello Kate_pheobe

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's understandable that you're feeling scared at the moment. I think most of our members here will understand that feeling regardless of the type of cancer that they have had.

It's important to remember when reading stories that people love to share horrible stories much more than they do positive ones. I'm unsure if we've anyone on the forum who has had a bone marrow biopsy but hopefully if there is they will post to share their support and advice with you.

We know that it can help to talk things through with someone at times like this and I wonder if you'd find it helpful to speak to one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be able to give you some advice and support ahead of your appointment later this week. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that all goes smoothly on Friday. Post a message to let us know how you're doing when you feel able.

    Best wishes,
