Getting results today

Hi

I'm new here I had a large part of my bowel  removed 3 weeks  ago, I went in as an emergency thinking  it was a large polyp turns out it was a very large lump/polyp which had closed  off the appendix  which had subsequently  died and caused an abcess. The result  was that my lover abdominal area was extremely  inflamed and therefore  a good part if my large bowel has gone and some of my small intestine. I'm feeling  OK in myself  still a bit sore and the wound is still healing.  However I still don't  know whether it was cancer or not.  I have an appointment this afternoon and the caller asked if I was  bringing someone  with me  so not feeling overly  confident but will glad just to know and if I need any more treat.

To anyone  still waiting results I'm sending  good  wishes.

Regards

  • Hello,

I saw my surgeon yesterday as I suspected it was cancer, however he said that he had got it all out with some surrounding tissue which histology showed as having no cancer in the surrounding tissue. He also removed 2 lymph nodes which did show some microscopic cells so therefore I will be having some chemo in a few weeks. I will have to wait to be contacted ny the oncology department  I suppose. My main concern  is that I'm not very big and I lost a bit of weigh in hospital  as I wasn't  able to eat much due to the operation I'm now eating  well at home but finding it hard to reach 2000 calories a day , any suggestions would be helpful  please.

  • Please speak to the hospital or your gp and ask your doctor to prescribe you with a nutrition drink called ensure to help you boost your calories.
I hope all goes well with your treatment Charl x

  • Hi Andi

I'm sorry to hear that the news wasn't all positive yesterday. Undoubtedly this will be an anxious few weeks for you ahead of starting the chemo.

We have some information on our website about diet and cancer which you may find helpful. I know that other members have talked about diet in their posts and said that making simple changes to their diet has helped with weight gain. I'd certainly recommend you speak to your GP or clinical nurse specialist about your concerns. They will be able to offer advice and support and possibly recommend or prescribe some nutritional supplements.

If you'd like to talk to our nruses at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can.

Keep in touch Andi and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
