Biopsies - waiting two weeks

Hello. I'm new to this forum, age 63, and the results of my routine mammogram meant a call back. Had more mammograms today, an ultrasound and biopsies as it seems I have something going on in both right breast and lymph node.  Two weeks for results will no doubt be endless but the staff were so kind I'm reassured that if there is definitely something I will be well cared for.  The nurse did say they are concerned and it may well be a small cancer so I am expecting the worst. Trying to stay positive though.

  • Hello Maryquitecontrary,

Two weeks waiting for results can indeed feel like a lifetime and many of our members will relate to how you are feeling. It looks like you have been really well looked after and that they have done all the necessary tests. You have the right attitude in keeping positive and in knowing as you have been told that whatever the results, if there is anything of concern you will be very well cared for.

All you can do for now is wait which is actually no easy thing and there are some helpful tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for news. While you are waiting, try and keep busy and distracted and avoid looking anything up online as this will only make you feel more anxious. Try not to anticipate what it might be as you won't know for sure until you get all the answers -  I am keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine!

I hope that you will meet others on the forum who have been in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks so much for your reply. I have become quite anxious and my GP has suggested increasing my antidepressants (I have fibromyalgia and episodes of depression), to help with anxiety. I'm an ex nurse and former medical school administrator so I do have a tendency to Google many things. Will try to keep away from the internet though now.

Thank you again. Will update when I get the results
