moles being removed for melanoma biopsy

Hi I am a 47 yr old female I have 5 children 2 with autism and my husband also has autism. My eldest daughter was cutting my hair 3 weeks ago and noticed a couple of moles in the middle of my back that she didnt like the look of I also happend to stand full force on 4 large nails in a piece of wood same day. I messaged the GP as all contact is via an online platform about needing a tetnus for the nails. She told me come in next day and she would give me a tetnus as she did not want me going to A&E as I am considered high risk Even though I am double jabbed.

While I was there I mentioned the 2 moles That my daughter was concerned about and she checked them out. She said one was 8mm blurred edges and several different shades of brown. and a smaller asymetric one also varying shades. She said it was prob nothing but would refer me anyway.

I saw the dermatologist today and she has booked me in for 2 weeks time (her first available slot) to have the 2 moles excised  and sent for biopsy) she also said the larger mole was now 9mm by 11mm but GP may have mismeasured it.

She did check a few others and said I have a couple benign moles so nothing to worry about.

I  am very fair skinned lots of freckles and was very red haired until 5 years ago now dark and grey lol

I have enough issues to deal with as i have Ehlers Danlos and idiopathic intracranial hypertension to cope with already.  I noe have 2 weeks to wait for the removal and then how ever long it takes for biopsy results . I do not have family I can talk too so I guess I just wanted somewhere to get it off my chest.

I know I am prob worrying over nothing but thats so easy to say right now.

  • Hi cavailia  sorry to hear of all your health issues. I have a friend with Ehlers Danlos so I understand abit about how that affects her.  Rest assured you've done the right thing. You took your daughters advice and went to the GP. It's good you've been referred and he didn't dismiss it. 2weeks is really quick time for the local excision op though I know it feels like a long time. The op is very simple relatively pain-free. I had a local excision for a mole on my knee. Done in 20mins under local anaesthetic and home within the hour. I had a couple of days resting but mainly cos it was on my leg. But by day 3 I was off on holiday.   For me the results came back 2 weeks later. If you need more support please feel free to message me. All the best for the local excision. It's honestly fine and nothing to worry about. I know its easier said than done but try not to worry and just keep yourself busy for the next few weeks

  • Hi Cavailia,

Sarahlou has already given you great advice as to what to expect. The only things I can add is that your recovery may take a little longer depending on where the back excision will be. I had one removed from between my shoulder blades and I was instructed not to lift anything heavier than a kettle or do housework like vacuuming as it would pull the wound apart. Alsi, your results will take between 4 to 6 weeks due to Covid delays so I suggest you like up things that you are able to do that will distract you from the stress of waiting.

We are here for you to talk to, you aren't alone. Hopefully the results will come back clear. Please let us know how you get on.

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
