Hormones or Something Serious?

Hi all, I am 25 and last Friday (10th) began experiencing a dull ache in my right breast.  At first it felt very similar to the mild tenderness I often experience in the days before my period.  However the discomfort is still here almost a week on and I am starting to worry.  There is no swelling, redness or discharge from the breast but the ache is fairly constant and I am finding it hard to bend down or reach for things.  I don't think there is a lump but there seems to be what feels like swollen breast issue on the outside. I have never experienced anything like this and my period is not due for at least another week so I thought it was unusual to experience this now.  I should add I am otherwise fine and am pretty flat chested.  If anyone could offer some words of advice I would really appreciate it.  Thank you.

    Hi Eamelia,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that these symptoms are worrying you. The chances are that this is nothing serious. At your age it is more likely to be hormonal. It is also unusual to have breast pain with breast cancer. Having said this, I am not a doctor and we are always advised to get any breast changes checked out, so i would advise you to contact your GP.

I know that it is difficult to get seen by our GPs at present, but if you tell the receptionist what your symptoms are, you should at least get a telephone consultation. If your GP deems it necessary, s/he can still see you face-to-face after that.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
