Newly diagnosed with Stage 3 Myeloma

Hi

I'd had awful back pain for weeks and was admitted to hospital as an emergency as I could not move or stand. I thought I'd really damaged a disc/muscle but had the shock of my life when I was diagnosed!

I've had 4 rounds of chemo and am due a stem cell transplant next month. I actually feel quite well atm and still have my hair but I know the transplant with be a gruelling experience and my hair will highly likely drop off.

I'm staying positive as much as I can, am having physio now, which is helping with my back pain but my feet are still numb thanks to the drugs.

I keep reading where at Stage 3, life expectancy is about 29 months!!!! Has anyone else been in a similar position to me and not had this awful deadline?

    Hi Sam,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and, all that you are going through. There are many people who have lived way beyond their predicted life expectancy. Cancer is a disease which affects everyone in a similar but individual way. At best all doctors can do is to give us a 'guesstimate', based on the law of averages, but that does not account for the grit, determination and luck of the individual.

Try to remain positive and to enjoy the time you have left with your family and friends. Please keep in touch and remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
