  • Hi Emma

A colposcopy shouldn't hurt at all-it’s a more detailed examination of the cervix where a liquid will be applied to identify any areas of abnormal cells. Low grade cells are precancerous, and the HPV strains which cause these cell changes are not the same as the HPV strains which cause genital warts.

Treatment for the abnormal cervical cells will depend on the level of severity-it may be that no treatment is required, and you are monitored, or it may be that they will be treated and removed. This is not the same procedure as the treatment for genital warts, which would be frozen off. Try not to worry too much-your issues are not cancer and can be easily sorted. xx
