Hi Moira,
I have given June a brief explanation about hormones in my last post to her. This should help you to understand a bit better. As you are not hormone receptive, your care team has to look at other options to halt the cancer.
There are different levels of DCIS from non-invasive, which hasn't yet developed the ability to spread, to invasive. They are graded low, intermediate and high. Perhaps your TV presenter has a high grade when she is having a mastectomy? If yours is level 0, this is probably why you're having a lumpectomy. Please try not to worry, you are in good hands and your care team is doing all that it possibly can for you.
If you don't understand anything, don't be afraid to ask, as you need to understand all that is going on for your own peace of mind.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Thanks Jolamine,
I understand better now. Also got a booklet to read. It's been a bit of a dip today . from 21 first August noticing a difference until being given an op date in 3 weeks and getting the mags seed inserted next Monday morning . . Just realised 2 months exactly. I feel so lucky intervention has been so fast but today I was suddenly swept away on a tide of tears .Such an emotional time. Ups and downs. Contacted cancer supppirt groups near home and hoping I'll get some support .
Thank you. We are all doing our best and we can do this. Xxxx

Hi Moira,
There are lots of booklets on all aspects of breast cancer. Most of these are available at your local hospital, or available to download or to be posted out from the various cancer organisations. Don't worry about your weaker moments today. We all have days like this. In fact, you will find many alikening their cancer journeys to the biggest and fastest rollercoaster ride you're ever likely to be on - up one minute and down the next.
I am glad to hear that you have contacted some local cancer support groups. Most of these are excellent and I am sure that you'll soon get some support from that quarter. You should get on fine next Monday morning. I didn't have any bother getting these inserted.
You can certainly do this and, we are always here to support you along the way.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx

Wise words as always Jolamine. It is rather like a rollercoaster as the ups and downs take you by surprise when you least expect. Thank you again.

Hi June,
I am so sorry to hear about the pain. This should settle over the next few days. You won't notce the scar under your arm with time. I expect that the large rectangular shape was to ensure that they got all of the cancer this time. Although none of this looks pretty at the moment, it will improve as it all heals. Are there any plans to reconstruct your nipple?
I know that the coming weeks will be an anxious time, but there shouldn't be any different news than that which you got after your biopsy. Here's hoping that your margins are clear this time.
Thinking of you and hoping that your pain reduces soon.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
