Severe stool problems after bowel cancer resection

Hi. becoming very concerned regarding severe pain in my abdomen, after Stoma reversal over 2 years ago. Appreciate it involved major surgery at the time for both operations.

I was told it would take time to settle, anything up to a year after the operations. Now several years down the line and still experience extreme bouts of pain.

Tried countless changes of diets, but nothing appears to help other than not eating, which long term not an option.

I may appear ungrateful for what others must go through, but life is difficult. Stools are varied between small walnut density and liquid.

Due to Covid -19 various appointments have been cancelled with reviews by a Colorectal Clinician or the consultant, but fully understand the reasons and the unprecedented pressure hospitals are under.

Just looking for some suggestions from anyone who had similar and found an answer.

Not seeing anyone until Jan 2022

  • Hi VirgilA,

I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties and I can understand the lack of appointments must be tough and frustrating.

If you're experiencing quite a bit of difficulty and feel you need to see someone sooner, give your doctor or the hospital a call and perhaps try to push for this. You could also suggest that they let you know of any cancellations prior to your planned appointment, if you're able to go at fairly short notice.

My reply here will boost your post so hopefully you'll receive further replies soon, particularly if there's anyone here with similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,
