My story

Hi I'm Charlie I'm 30 and I found out in April 2021 I have a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (sarcoma)  in my left arm caused by my medical condition called Neurofibromatosis 1

I started getting bad pain in my arm and my shoulder years before I honestly thought it was a frozen shoulder then around January I noticed a lump that was very hard.

I was going in for surgery for another operation and I told.my surgeon and he did a biopsy and I went for mri and ct scans too,

I had radiotherapy for 5 weeks everyday and now I'm awaiting surgery

Because it shows up the lump is very near my main nerve they might have to take that main nerve out if the sarcoma is attached to that main nerve

I am really worried and scared to wake up with not knowing what the outcome will be if I'm gonna wake up with not being able to use or move my hand/arm after I recover properly if I lose that main nerve

The surgeon doesn't know until they open me up weather it Will effect me in that way

My surgery should be end of October 2021

I would love to hear everyone's story's and be a support for others too

Thank you for taking the time to read my story

  • Hi Charlie,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of what you're going through, and I can understand your worries. It's hard to advise on this as it sounds like the only thing to do is to wait and see what next steps are required. In the meantime try to take things a day at a time.

I hope this forum can provide some support to you, and it's good to hear you are keen to support others here too. Hopefully you'll receive further replies before too long.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
