Kidney lesion or shadow

Hi all I'm new here. Here is my story so far. I went to hospital about 7 weeks ago with pain under me ribs I had this pain for about 5 to 6 weeks (I was quitting smoking at the time so put it down to anxiety). The doctor was lovely he checked me over and said he made an appointment for me to have an ultrasound the next day. I went in the day after and they did the ultrasound I waited and waited all the while panicking asking my self why its taking so long 10 hours later he came to me and said everything is fine apart from one of my bloods something about oxygen in my blood and that I had a shadow on my left kidney. I was OK didint think anything of it as he told me not to worry and he would book a scan again about 4 weeks later I got a letter saying a ct scan had been requested and my appointment was for the 3rd of September any ways I forgot the doctor was booking me another scan so I rang the hospital and got put through to the secretary of the doctor who ordered the ct I asked what it was for she said it was for a lesion on my kidney. Now the worry set in I was told I had a shadow and now it's a lesion. I've had my ct and now my anxiety is through the roof, I've now got bad ribs again I'm feeling tired I know they are of my own doing because I was fine 1 week ago but this waiting I tell you is not fun its only been 3 days and I've been sad all weekend I have 2 little girls and a wife who is amazing by the way she is trying her best but all I can think of is I have cancer and I'm now making my self sick. I just wanted to get this off my chest as I find it hard to talk.

  • Hi Stephen and welcome to the forum.

I hope writing everything down has helped and you're feeling a bit better since making this post but if you're still struggling I hope the tips and advice given in this article on how to cope with waiting for news will keep you going until you know more.

I'm glad you've reached out to us Stephen as many of our members have/are in a similar situation so will completely understand what you're going through at the moment and will hopefully pop by soon to offer their support and advice.

In the meantime, try to stay busy and distract yourself if you can as it will help time pass a bit more quickly whilst you wait. We'll have our fingers crossed the shadow/lesion will be no cause for concern.

    All the best,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
