Dermoid cyst

I'm 54 and have been diagnosed with a 5 cm 

dermoid cyst on my ovary. My blood test came back normal for cancer. I have chosen to have it removed, however the consultant says he wants to remove the ovary and tube, so now I'm having second thoughts. Is it worth having a second opinion to see if the ovary could be saved. I don't fancy HRT . 
can anyone tell me how they feel with one ovary?
