Dermoid Cyst - Open Surgery Pending

Hi everyone!

I'm just looking for any advice or help that any of you can give about my situation. I'm 23 and have cysts on both my ovaries, one is 14cm and the other is 8 1/2cm. I'm due to get open surgery on the 15/09 and I'm really worried they will have to remove one or both of my ovaries. I've been told they are dermoid cysts and the cancer blood checks came back normal so there are no cancer worries this far but will do a biopsy after the cysts are removed. I really want to have children and asked if it's possible for some eggs to be removed and frozen but was told this could rupture the cysts so is not possible. I'm also worried how the recovery is going to go, I've been given a month sick line off my work and thankfully they are supportive of the whole procedure. Please feel free to give any reassuring advice or anything about your own experience that relates to my situation!! Thank you!!

  • Welcome to the forum Livingston23 although I'm sorry about the cysts that have been found and for the worry they are causing.

There have been many discussions about these cysts within the community so hopefully some of our members who are currently on the same path as you will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Wishing you all the best with your surgery on the 15th and a speedy recovery afterwards.

    Kind regards,
