Oesophagus

Hi I'm new here

i would just like to ask some questions that's not been answered properly by our Drs.

But my dads 93 and has an obstruction in his oesophagus which was making him regurgitate everything he tried to eat or drink he also lost a lot of weight.

my hospital had phoned to try and persuade my dad to come into hospital otherwise he's not live 2 weeks as he had lost over 3 stone in such a short time

he's now been in hospital for the last 8 days and they have tried to feed him through his nose the oesophagus was so obstructed for a stent but has a tiny hole to fit the tube further down just so he could get a feed.

unfortunately he pulled it out in the night.

he now has a feeding tube through his neck which he disconnected a few times through the night

Wednesday they are hoping to put a stent in but not sure where to this time but we go to the hospital every day and try to keep his spirits up as he knows what's going on even for a 93 year old his mind is all there.

we are still waiting his results so I'm hoping nothing changes for us to get it done and get him home.

as he's 93 he won't have any cancer treatment as he is so unwell he would probably not stand it but we should get a little time with him.

it's so sad to watch.

has anyone else been through the same thing or can explain a little more. I've tried so hard to take everything in.

  • Hello caz1962

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis and that things have deteriorated over the past few weeks. It sounds like an incredibly difficult situation for you all.

Can I suggest that you give our team of nurses a call? I'm sure that they would be happy to talk things through with you and offer any information, advice, and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that tomorrow's procedure goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
