Kidney cancer.

Hi I'm Frances. My husband was diagnosed with Kidney cancer stage four in 2016.  He had a nephrectomy and it was a 5 pound tumour  it had spead to lungs and lymph nodes near his heart.   He went on trial and was put on pazopanib. It was a bit rough at first with 800mg a day.  But he couldn't tolerate it he slowly reduced to 400mg and that worked till 2020  He presented with a sore neck  it was in his spine C7 -C4   He had been walking about with a broken back    The cancer had crumbled the spine   So he had reconstructive surgery which worked   He had 5 days of radiotherapy  And was put on immunotherapy in March    His last scan showed the lymph nodes had doubled in size  so the immunotherapy is not working.   So we go to the consultant on Thursday to see where we go next     Feeling really apprehensive  But hoping there will be other treatments available

  • Hi, looking for experiences re kidney cancer.  My dad has just been diagnosed with cancer over the last couple of weeks after passing blood since last July.  He had biospies in April of his prostate and bladder which showed cancer in his bladder and ureter which they think is coming from his right kidney.  He was given the option of going back in to check the right kidney or going a head with removing it.  The urologist was quite certain that the primary cancer started in the right kidney, even though they haven't carried out tests of it.  Plan was more CT scans and all being well then the removal of his right kidney, ureter and groin lymph nodes, a TURBT removed the bladder tumour which was grade 3 transitional cell carcinoma at the time of initial biopsies.  Thankfully no cancer was found in his protate.  He had CT scans 3 weeks ago of his chest, pelvis and abdomen.  On Thursday we were telephoned and told that he has been booked in for a brain PET scan this Friday coming, no results were shared of the last CT scans.  A telephone consultation is booked for 16th Sep where all results will be reviewed with us.  My father has also been suffering from neck pain and over the last few days is experiencing numbness in his arms, hands and his lip oddly.  Due to the absolute shambles of the NHS in NI my father has been through 5 different urologists since first presently with symptoms.  I am going to call re this neck pain and new nerve issues he is having this week.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He's certainly having a horrible time.  It's such a shock for everyone.    My husband as I said was diagnosed in 2016.  And he was 67 at the time  And the future looked grim. But with being on trials for Pazopanib. We were pleased with the results.  The tumours reduced to nearly nothing.   So he was on that till 2020.  And now getting immunotherapy which just this week we've been told it's not working. So they have suggested going back on the Pazopanib as he's had a break from it.  So five years on he's still doing fine. And we hope and pray we'll get a lot more. So there's always hope and plenty of options. So I hope you get something that helps and agrees with your father   Best wishes. F.
