Moving house - could it affect diagnosis?

In April I had a suspicious tomosynthesis breast screening, showing microcalcifications. I was called back and they repeated the screening. After looking at the resulting image, they thought it should be biopsied. 5 different people tried for an hour to get a biopsy and couldn't. They told me they would call me back in November, when if it had grown, it would be easier to biopsy.

I am now planning to move to another area of the country, but don't want this appointment to get lost. Should I tell the hospital so they can pass on my notes to (hopefully) make an appointment with my new hospital, or just turn up for the appointment at the old hospital even though I no longer live in the right area? I have been worrying since April that there might be something there. The biopsy would have told me one way or the other, but now I am in limbo and don't want to have to wait past the November appointment

  • Hello KateJ

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting on a follow-up appointment at the breast clinic. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious particularly with the upcoming house move and the possibility that this may delay things.

I wonder if speaking to your current hospital and explaining the situation would be a good start. Depending on when you are actually moving they may offer to bring the appointment forwards or if that's not feasible then you can get the ball rolling regarding moving your care to the new unit if that's what you decide you want to do.

Hopefully, you can get this sorted relatively easily and the next appointment will bring you some reassurance about things.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank-you for your reply Jenn. I will send them a letter. We are moving early October, but from what my sister said, I probably don't want to move soon after a biopsy - I have 2 younger sisters who have had breast cancer. So it would probably be better if they can move my appointment to our new local hospital, although I ahve a feeling they might not add me to the list until I am actually living there.
