Awaiting contact regarding referral

Hello everyone, I my doctor has sent referral to ear, nose and throat department cancer section. I also have COPD. I have not been well for a while and decided to go to doctors. I haven’t seen a doctor for over a year! I have talked on the phone regarding issues with my mouth and they stated it was oral thrush due to steroid inhalers! I
Luckily I saw a doctors assistant yesterday and when she saw my mouth she straight away did the referral! Can someone advise how long this will take before I get appointment.

  • Hello Dizzymaggie

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health problems for some time now. It sounds from your post as if the GP will have referred you under the 2-week wait pathway but with the current Covid situation many hospitals are taking longer to see patients.

I'd suggest giving the hospital a call next week to check that they have received your referral and to ask if they're able to give you a time frame for an appointment. If you're able to attend at short notice it may be worth mentioning this to them in case they have any cancellations.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for the appointment and that the team is able to help.

    Best wishes,

  • Yesterday I recieved a call from the hospital and I have my first appointment next Thursday! Relieved I didn't have to wait long! I know it's my initial meeting with specialist but upset that husband is not allowed to accompany me! Hopefully this will change if I have to undergo any tests or treatments!

  • Glad you have got your appointment through quickly. I'm still waiting it's been a week and nothing yet really hoping they give me a call tomorrow otherwise I have to call them. Good luck

  • Thankyou, although I have family rallying around I feel very much alone going through this process! It's hard to explain how I feel,I want to shout and scream at everyone and blame everyone but I am now preparing for my initial appointment next Thursday!

i knows it difficult, I have t told anyone yet as don't want to get everyone worried incase it isn't cancer. Just difficult to focus and keep going with the unknown. Just want to have my first appointment then the dreaded waiting for the result. Good luck with your results x

  • I have had tests done on Thursday. Have been given all clear after tests carried out! I have been advised I have reflux which is treated with tablets! Sooo relieved! I really entered a dark place mentally! I am lucky as I had my husband and daughter to listen to all my concerns! You really should talk to someone if possible as it really does help! I wish you all the best! Please update!
