Fast, fast track !

Sunday ... discovered a lump

Monday 8am ring GP and told a triage nurse would ring me back. She had rang me back by 8.50 and I had an appointment with a GP for 10.35.

The lady GP explained that she would refer me to the breast clinic and that they have to have given me an appointment within the next two weeks. The hospital rang me later that afternoon to give me an appointment for the very next day Tuesday at 2.40.

Tuesday I attended my appointment and after the initial examination by a consultant. He pulled no punches and told me that he didn't like what he was feeling ! There were no reassuring, 'I don't think there's anything to worry about' or could be a cyst etc. It was explained to me that this was a 'one stop clinic and that anything that was deemed necessary to do, would all be done today starting with a mammogram (my last mammogram was a routine one two years ago and was clear)

by 5pm after having a mammogram, a scan, a biopsy, a marker clip attached internally to the 'tumour' and a further mammogram to confirm the clip was in place and visible. I had a further consultation with the consultant.

it would take a week now for the biopsy results to confirm what he believes in his initial examination and what he has seen on the scan that we are dealing with a tumour. He will make me an appointment to discuss the results and treatments as soon as he gets the results !
I asked him outright, should I be preparing myself for the worse and he said .... yes, I think so.

So, wow .... all credit to NHS and I reckon that you are now going to be hearing a lot more from me on this forum. It's not so much .... fingers crossed it's more like .... time to put your 'big girl' pants on

  • Hello Nanaroo,

They certainly moved really fast which is amazing. Not long to wait now for the results of your biopsy and I can imagine you are feeling a bit nervous given that you were told to prepare for the worst. However, only the biopsy results will tell you for sure what you are dealing with so I am keeping everything tightly crossed for you for now. Do come back and let us know in a few days what they have told you and whether the biopsy confirms the consultant's hunch.

We'll be thinking of you in the coming days and I wanted you to know that the forum is there for you and we have countless wonderful ladies here who will be there for you to guide you and talk to you in times whenever you feel the need to offload. You can also count on our lovely nurse team if you would like to talk things through with them - you can ring them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm on this free number 0808 800 4040.

Best  of luck for your results and best wishes,

  • I am so sorry to hear that your clinicians were not more reassuring.

I hope the next 5 days go fast for you.

Its easy to say don't worry but worrying won't magic away the lump.

At least the clinicians were honest to you rather than build your hopes up to then send for you again.

The very best of luck, please let us know what the outcome is.

    Hi Nanaroo,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about your consultants suspicions, but just wanted to reassure you that they are not always correct. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years, plus a number of scares. On three occasions, I was told at my first visit that my consultant was sure that I had breast cancer, but this only turned out to be the case in two of them.

I know how worrying the wait for results is and, I hope that if your consultant is correct, that you have caught it early. It is great to hear that everything has been done quickly for you and I am keeping my fingers crossed for good news.

Please keep in touch and let us know whenyou get your results. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
