I'd say it's pretty understandable. Hard not to panic when your health is in question. Even though it sounds like everything is probably OK, I know how hard it is not to think about the possibility it might not be.

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you are at this awful stage of waiting to be seen at the breast clinic, but glad to hear that your appointment has come through already. Not all lumps are cancerous, so try not to panic. Many people get lumps which turn out to be benign cysts or fibroadenoma. 

It is a known fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred will get a cancer diagnosis, so the chances are still looking hopeful for you. It is better that your GP refers you as a precaution rather than missing anything, so she is doing the right thing.

I expect that the two-stage appointment is where you'll see the consultant to talk about your symptoms, have a physical examination of your breasts and then be sent for an ultrasound and maybe a biopsy. Some people also have a mammogram and you may too. They don't usually give these to younger people, as their breasts are denser and don't show up well on mammogram. If a biopsy is carried out, you may then have to wait a further 1-2 weeks to get a diagnosis.

Most of us would agree that this is one of the scariest parts of our cancer journey. Try to keep busy to help the time to pass.

See my 'fast, fast track' post that I have just posted. Find out if the clinic that you will be attending is a 'one stop' one. If it is, then they should do all the procedures that they think are necessary within the same appointment. Just sitting you back in the waiting room and calling you back in for the next thing.

I have a great saying ..... don't imagine yourself fighting on the front line and being killed ! When there might not even be a war !

Take each step as it comes and don't cross any bridges until you come to them. Let the doctors take care of the breast situation and you take care of yourself and your 'headspace' That's where I'm at .... welcome to the club :-)

Its totally understandable feelings, don't beat yourself up for feeling worried. The good news is you don't have too long to wait for your appt. The appointments at the breast clinic are like well oiled machines. I was there yesterday and I walked out smiling. (Even though I'm waiting on biopsy results - they were so supportive and put me right at ease). 

You'll boss it.
