Essential Thrombocytopenia

Hi

I am 48 and my GP has referred me on as she suspects ET as my platelets are over 750 and rising but she said it could be a while. (It was a general blood test to see if I'd started menopause- I haven't but suffer bleeds daily).  I had a bad fall 2 weeks ago the bruising went from my knee on both sides all the way down to to my foot and every since I have felt so exhausted - is this usual?. I didn't know this could be a side effect it's so helpful to read these posts although I had no idea ET is considers a cancer. Any advice appreciated.

  • Hello TinaD777

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health problems recently and that you're now waiting on an appointment and investigations for ET. It's understandably an anxious time for you.

We do have some information about essential thrombocythaemia on our website which you may find helpful and I'd encourage you to have a look at this thread as well as this thread on the forum. As you can see they are active threads with posts from many people living with ET over the past few years. They're a supportive group and I'm sure that if you posted on one, or both, of those threads that you'd get some replies from others who have been diagnosed with ET.

You're also most welcome to give our team of nurses a call. It can often help to talk things through and I'm sure that the nruses would be happy to offer any advice and support that they can ahead of your appointment as well as help you think about the things you may want to raise with the specialist. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Tina and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
