Going out of my mind waiting…

Hi I'm a 43 year old woman and  I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer......still got to have CT Scan and bone scan and markers put in before I start my chemo in a couple of weeks but I'm going out of my mind with worry that it's spread and there's nothing that can be done. How do I stop this roller coaster? It's my daughter's 6th birthday on Thursday and I'm not sure how I can put on a brave face....tell me all these feelings are normal? I can sleep or eat....

thanks for reading.

    Hi Ariesfire,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis and can unfortunately confirm that all your eating, sleeping and emotional problems are perfectly normal. It is usual to think worst case scenario too, although fortunately, this seldom comes to pass.

Do you have dates for your CT and bone scan yet? These should tell you a bit more.Try to keep yourself preoccupied with pleasanter pursuits at the moment.Keeping yourself busy helps the time to pass a little quicker. You will feel better once you start treatment and fighting this with all you've got.

Breast cancer is one of the more treatable types of cancer nowadays, so try not to panic. You are likely to have a difficult year fighting this then, this time next year, this will just be a memory. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years and still live a busy and fulfilled life, so this is not as bad as it seems.

Put a brave face on for your daughter's birthday party on Thursday and, please let us know how your scans go. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Ariesfire,

So much is happening at this time that it really is mind boggling. Am I right in saying that you are having chemo first and following on with surgery at a later date? You should get an appointment for your scans through soon.

Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, @jolamine yes chemo first then surgery after, just have to wait and see I suppose? Don't know if that's a good thing or not?
will let you know how I get on.
    Thanks

    Hi Airesfire,

That's good. As far as I know, the results are the same  whether you have chemo before or after surgery.

I look forward to hearing how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
