Breast Clinic Appointment and Worried.

It's my first time posting on here but I've been reading your stories for several days now, and it's given me the courage to reach out, as I'll admit I'm scared.

A week ago I felt a lump in my left breast. My left armpit, shoulder blade and shoulder ache intermittently and sometimes it hurts a lot, as well as aching in the left breast.

I made an appointment with my GP who examined me last week and made the referral.  Today the hospital rang with the appointment for this Thursday the 12th.

I am scared of having biopsies and even the mammogram. I am 51 and postmenopause and have a young son at home. I just don't know what to expect... My husband will be driving me to the appointment and because I have post viral fatigue I'll be using a wheelchair as cannot walk far.

I just need someone to talk to who has gone or going through this.

Thanks for listening and I hope everyone is having a better day xx

  • Hi

Sorry to hear you are so scare, but I can relate to it. I had pain and still have in my left breast and armpit. I am 57 and had never had a mammogram, I found what I thought but wasn'"t sure a lump in my left breast. Had phone call with gp who obviously didn't want to see me referred me straight to breast clinic. The appt came through for a couple of days later.

I was so anxious and worried but it was fine, consultant had quick feel, sent for mammogram, ultrasound and back for results in prob less than an hour. My friend was able to come with me and wait in waiting area down the corridor and would have been able to come into consultants room if I had wanted.

I hope everything goes well for you, it is so normal to feel anxious and worried. X

  • Thank you for replying.  I'm glad everything went well at your appointment. Like you I've never had a mammogram before either. I'm scared they'll need a biopsy as there is most definitely a lump. Everything chest related makes me feel sick ... I guess I'm just so squeamish because normally my whole chest is sensitive  ( probably fibromyalgia related ) but my left breast and arm/ armpit/ shoulder and shoulder blade ache very bad at times.  I have had post viral fatigue for 14 months now which isn't helping as I'm constantly drained. I'm trying to be ok but I am so worried.

  • Like you I was so worried, don't know how I even got myself there!!. The mammogram wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, I even had to have it repeated as they had not got the whole of my breast in. Thankfully I did not need a biopsy but I'm sure it is not as bad as we imagine.

I still have my breast pain over a year later and still so worried about it.

  • @Worrywart24 I'm so sorry to hear about your ongoing pain - have they not said what could be causing it? I've had pain since last year and thought it was muscular  - now I could kick myself for not linking pain and lump together because I'm sure in my case that the two are related.

I find a heat pad helps ... I take paracetamol as well, but it doesn't take the pain away unfortunately.

Have they checked you for inflammation of the chest wall?

Let's hope you get some answers soon!

  • Hi

Nobody has mentioned checking me for inflammation of the chest wall, so that is a thought thanks. I have had it for about 16 months now. I have had naproxen, amitriptyline, gabapentin and sertraline nothing has worked. I have also seen private physio and oestopath but still no answers. It has cost a lot of money which I would not mind if I had answers or pain resolved. I am thinking of getting referred back to breast clinic next. I am. So fed up with it.

Hope all goes well for you

  • Be sure to let me know how you're getting on and thank you so much for the chat.

  • Thanks to you too and let me know too x

  • Hi

I was just thinking about you and wondering how you got on. X

  •

    Hello @Worrywart24

    Thank you for remembering x

OK, well they couldn't do a biopsy today because now I need 2 locations biopsed. Breast and lymph nodes under arm because they are  swollen. They said the "mass" was 2.5cm and semi hard and was " unusual". They said at this point they cannot rule out cancer but the biopsies would be arranged as urgent - so hopefully get an appointment next week! X

  • Hi

It is a shame that they couldn't do the biopsies today, wasn't it a one stop clinic? I will keep everything crossed for a good outcome for you.

I have another gp phone appt next week as I can't stand this feeling in my breast much longer, so maybe I too will be back at the breast clinic.

    I hope you are feeling OK x x x
