My cancer

Hi everyone,

I have been diagnosed with oesphagus cancer last week, so all new to me at moment. Cat scan week tomorrow to decide prognosis.

Finished telling my family today as one son was away on holiday and didn't want to ruin his holiday.

Two brothers died previously of bowel cancer, just me and sister left.

I have suspected an issue for some time saw doctor six months ago he sent me for xray on chest, all clear according to that.

Now this.

Where to go from here.

All for now

  • Hi and welcome to our little chat room.... that we all wish we didn't need but glad it's hear .... it's a scary scary rollercoaster ride.... loads of high and lows ... but know your not alone ...

Telling kids are the hardest .. my son went a tad do lally for a while till we got over the shock, and started living in the day ... try not to look ahead or think of the whole picture.... it will do your head in ... one day and one problem at a time ...

Allow yourself bad days where you'll want to rant or cry or scream ... we all have them ... but get your self a pair of pink vertual boxing gloves... and get in this cancer ring wer all in ... Chrissie x

  • Hi

really Sorry to hear of your diagnosis and wish you all the best. Just wondering if you are comfortable to share a bit more regarding your symptoms and tests you had done prior to diagnosis as I'm in this current worry right now.

    thanks

  • Hi aan,

I was diagnosed with Barrett's 6 years ago and was put on a two yearly endoscopy but that never happened. I have had reflux for year and take lansoprazole twice a day.

This time my symptoms started a bit six months ago, reflux symptoms, feeling if a lump in my throat, constipation, back ache and pain under my ribs, mainly the right hand side.

I had xray about two months ago and the doc said I was clear, but I knew I wasn't.

This time the pain in chest was worse, tiredness and some difficulties with swallowing food.

Have you had a diagnosis as yet?

    Hope this helps.

    John

  • The only diagnosis was based on the first endoscopy and mri scan, it confirmed gullet cancer, but docs want further tests to check on how far the cancer has spread to . Ultrasound endoscopy booked for next Friday, and a PET scan to follow. :(
