  • Hi

I was in the same place as you two years ago in the sense that my husband was being treated for stage 3 colon cancer and i found it really hard to cope with two children (one studying for a levels), a full time demanding job and my husband's response to cancer (which involved a lot of drinking at certain points).

If you have any help you can get from family or even friends, then ask for it...It could be as simple as cooking the supper for the children one night a week, or just talking one morning a week to get things off your chest. Do anything that helps you to keep going without falling ill yourself. It is an exhausing experience accompanied by a sense of loss even for us as the partners. i went into depression and for a while my face even pysically changed with exhaustion . So please find ways to be away from the cancer before it exhausts you and your children. I took my children horse riding and got one of them to do pottery one afternoon...anything to help heal our emotions; and sometimes doing stuff that doesn't necessarily need words is better for children.  A good book i found at a cancer retreat was 'the artists way'. It told me to write 3 pages of diary every morning, and it helped me shed those early morning tears in ordeer to face my responsibilities of the day. Every blessing  x
