Ibc

Hi, I don't know if I'm jumping the gun or have ibc. Just over 2 weeks ago I found a red mark on my left boob. It is like a sunburn but on about a third of my breast, I saw my GP the next day who put me on antibiotics as I expected, after a week no improvement so another round of antibiotics and a referral to the breast clinic. I must say that in hindsight she didn't seem to see why I was so worried about it but still did the referral to put my mind at rest.

My appointment is this Wednesday and I'm preparing for the worst. I have welt like marks around that part of my areola and the skin is dimpled. I know that it could be nothing but I'm not so sure.

If and it's a big if it is cancer does anyone have any ideas how to tell my grown up children, this is the part I'm more afraid of?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Hi Ani,

No advice I am afraid just a message of support. I am in the same boat with an awful broken skin/rash type issue on my nipple, dimpling/indentation above the nipple amongst various other issues. Dr Google tells me IBC but I also have a breast clinic referral which is booked for Friday.

Re telling your grown up children - I am a grown up child at 26 and I would want my mum to be honest and straight with the details. I have had many people in my family with cancer and struggled most when I didn't feel like I knew what was happening. They may also google and find scary things so giving them all of the information from your doctor on your specific case will be really helpful.

Wishing you all the best for Wednesday - please let me know how you get on xx

  • Hi lhammett18

Thanks for ur mail it's appreciated ️.

Well I had my appointment this morning and scans, mammagrams and then biopsys. Unfortunately I was told that it's highly probable that I have ibc. I will be called back to go and discuss a treatment plan next week.

We kinda knew what they were going to say so not a huge surprise, I just want to get on with it now.

We went to see my mum on the way home to tell her, I was worried about that because my sister died of lung cancer six years ago. To be fair she took it really well or put on a brave face, I dunno.

The children have been told that they need to come ova tonight as we need to talk to them about something face to face, so that's going to be hard but needs to be done.

Good luck on Friday, please keep in touch hun and let me know how u get on xxxx

  • Hi Ani,

Oh I'm so sorry for the terrible news - at the very least at least it wasn't a huge shock. Everything crossed for successful treatment!

Glad you've got your mum on side and I am sure your children will be ready to support you in every which way they can.

I hope my scan tells us something - it's the waiting I cannot stand. If I have the big c then fine - at least I'll know and can start to deal with it. Will let you know after my appointment xx

  • Hiya hun, any news on how it went today? xx
