My wife’s mammogram

I'm feeling really anxious. My wife had her mammogram on Thursday and got a call yesterday referring her as a two week rule. I didn't hear the conversation and I don't want to keep pressing her so I'm not sure how suspicious the findings were. Can't help thinking the worst. We can't find any lumps but don't think that necessarily means much.

the waiting is very hard

  • Sorry to read about your wife's recall.

I know its not easy but try not to worry not all recalls end with bad news.

They will likely do a further mammogram, ultrasound and possible biopsy when she goes next, that's what they did for me.

    Hope all goes OK.

  • Hi.

I've been through the same experience two weeks ago.

    Not all recalls are bad.

I was dreading mine. Ultrasound and biopsies I had.

I did ask the radiologist to be as honest as she could be.

Yes and she was. It did however prepare me for my next appointment. Even though I thought my legs would buckle underneath me.

    I couldn't feel a lump either.

Right what I'm about to say doesn't mean your wife has what I've got.

Two days ago I've been diagnosed with stage 1 bc. Caught early and treatable.

Just work on the information that you are provided with. Be led by them as they are professionals.

It's good they are on the ball  and let me tell you they will act quickly.

Don't run ahead of yourself at this moment. Wait for the next piece of information and process it together. One step at a time.

Tell her if she needs to talk I'm here and infact for both of you.

  • Thank you Jax for taking the time to reply whilst you are going through this difficult time. You sound as though you are being amazingly strong. I hope everything goes well for you. It is great that yours has been caught early!

  • Hi mine was caught early as well and I went on to have surgery. Luckily it hadn't spread but the type I have I'm now having chemo then radiotherapy.

As ophela77 said try not to run ahead with thoughts just go step by step.

Also here if you either of you need to chat

  • Thank you so much. Good luck with your treatment

  • Just had my recall today and they had seen a white spot on my left breast which wasn't there before. I was scared stiff and wanted to cry. On the 2nd mammogram they did a second it was about taking sliced images and from this they could see the white spot had disappeared. They said it part of the breast tissue and they did a physical look and then to double check an ultrasound which she said was fine. They will review the images with the consultant but they will just recall me as normal in 3 years.

The NHS know what they're looking at and are lovely and caring. I know I'm one of the lucky ones and I wish your wife all the best. Everyone tells you not to worry until you're told but no one can stop you worrying. Let us know how she gets on.

  • Glad to hear your news is good and that you will now be monitored. Yes we do worry sadly even though we know we shouldn't.

I have just finished my first course of chemo then next month I start a weekly treatment hoping it's not as bad as the current one knocks me out for 5 days. At the end I then have 2 weeks of radiotherapy.
