I feel extremely lucky to be here and writing this as I recover from a second cancer.
In 2014 I had a mammogram that showed a small tumour in my breast.
I had 2 operations, radiotherapy and 5 years of hormone therapy and am still clear of that.
Then in March this year had a CT scan for a bowel issue that showed a tumour on my left kidney. I went in on 7th April to have a nephrectomy to remove the kidney and a 9.8cm tumour. There was no spread so I'll be monitored but need no other treatment. I'm recovering slowly - it brought home how unfit I am.
But also how very lucky I have been. With both of my cancers I haven't been ill, just sore from the surgeries.
I know there's a 40% chance of the kidney cancer recurring, however that means there's a 60% chance it will not!
If it hadn't been for the research that goes on, diagnostics, treatment options available and the surgeons skills things would be very different.
As 1 in 2 people get cancer, I'm hoping I've done my bit now, and have promised my family I will try not to grow anything else that I don't need!
These forums are such a useful tool for both patients and families. They answer questions you might be afraid to ask and can give advice you may not have thought you needed!
You are not alone, even if sometimes it feels like it, there is always someone on these groups to listen, support and help.
Sending positivity x
