Benign lump but not a fibroadenoma?

Hello! I was diagnosed with a fibroadenoma about 2 and a half years ago. I had been getting more pain in the breast with the fibroadenoma and the lump felt bigger, so I was referred for another ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that the lump was bigger and my doctor gave me the option of having it removed. But I don't want to have it removed right now and so they did a biopsy instead (which hadn't been done the first time).

The biopsy results have come back and I've been told that the lump is benign, but it's "not clinically consistent with the appearance of a fibroadenoma". I've been given an appointment for an ultrasound guided biopsy. I know it's nothing to worry about because it's apparently benign. But I'm concerned because I've had this lump for so long and now I'm being told that it's been misdiagnosed. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

  • Hello omca,

Welcome to our forum! I can understand why this has been a bit unsettling for you and hopefully you will find out soon what this lump exactly is. It is reassuring though that they have told you that the lump is benign. I hope you won't need to wait too long for your ultrasound guided biopsy and that you get some clear answers very soon.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have been in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their stories with you.

    Best wishes,
