New member just diagnosed

i am a new member i have been having regular mouth cancer screenings but this time a biopsy of the tongue has shown changes in cells and there is a growth on the right side of tongue so they are looking at been aggressive in removing the cancer growth.

i am sat here so affraid of the unknown.  i have lost so many loved ones to cancer and my mum sadly had mouth cancer and passed away which has got my own alarm bells ringing.

i have had a dreadful year so far lost my partner after 20 odd years to covid now i am facing this on top.

  • Hi mikey, just like you im having problems getting a diagnosis. I first saw my gp sept 2020 and he referred me to ent doctor. On my first visit i had the camera up my nose and into my throat and he told me he was 99.9%  sure that i had cancer of the right vocal cord. My daughter broke down and i was stunned. He sent me for mri and ct scan and when i went to my next appointment my vocal cord looked double the size of my left one with what looked to me like little black spots over it. He had me in for a biopsy and 2wks later he rang me to say the biopsy was inconclusive and would i go and have another biopsy, we were near xmas by now. Anyway its now june 2021 and ive been in 4 times and they say im a very odd case and they cant rule out cancer. I went for another ct scan on 17th june and ive received a letter today telling me that hes referring me to an ent colleague who specialises in larynx oncology. Ive gone past the worrying stage now because ive just accepted that ive probably got cancer. I can honestly say to you that you shouldnt have to wait long. Every time ive been in it hasnt taken long at all especially with the nhs dealing with covid as well, Try not to worry and definitely dont google because that will give you days to live. I do lots off crosswords or jigsaws to take my mind off it. Please let us know how you get on and try not to worry, i will keep everything crossed for you. Take care.::

  • So.sorri 2 hear this. Can i ask apart from growth did u have any other symptoms? Iv been goin.to gp for a few months with a sore tongue.and its white on top go said notging concerning in my mouth looks fine but im not convinced.

  • i didn't have any symptoms i was going to the dentists as normal for check ups things were fine then he saw something under my tongue to the right.  sent me to hospital where a sample was taken and it came back okay.

the growth seemed to go then a year later went back to dentists and he said it had come back but larger.

the growth is confirmed as cell changes and they are now looking to remove part of the tongue to stop any further spread.

strange though as the second time it came back i wasn't feeling at all right in myself.

i have lost a stone and half of weight for no reasons and not too clever now so am hoping they resolve this fast.

  • Thanksnfornthe reply aww im sorry 2 hear that hope you get it resolved as soon as possible for u xx
