Moderate to severely high grade to treatment

Hi. I an hoping to get some advice on my situation.

I had my first smear test at the age of 28, which came back as clear. I had my further second smear this year March time, which came back with HPV with modern grade 2 abnornal cells and was requested to go for a colposcopy and for treatment.

I had a biopsy carried out, with 1cm of my cervix removed which came back as severely hugh grade cells. Fortunately all abnornal cells from the inside of my cervix have been removed successfully, however, there are still abnornal cells on the outside of my cervix, so It was recommended by my gynaecologist that I have the treatment carried out once again.

10-11 weeks after my first procedure, unfortunately, I was not able to have the treatment and biopsy carried out as my cervix on the oneside was short from my first treatment, therefore, my consultant said she would get me booked in for a couple of weeks time to have a hysterscopy, carried out asleep.

Today, a week and a bit later, I received a call from the hospital to say my consultant has discussed my case with other consultants and have confirmed there are other options for me and my consultant will be video calling me on Wednesday morning to discuss this.

I am now very concerned about this and naturally thinking the worst. Has anyone got similar situations and could advise please?

  • Hi Claire and welcome to the community.

I'm not sure what time you'll be having your video call with your consultant today but I hope it goes well and they're able to put your mind at ease.

If you have any questions before/after the call do feel free to get in touch with our team of nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable in this field and will help you work through what was discussed with your consultant.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph,

Thank you for your response. I feel my consultant appointment went okay. My options were to have a smear test in clinic in 6 months time, and reloop and biopsy if needed if abnornal cells are present, or a full hysterectomy. Very opposite ends of the scale, however, my consultant feels my treatment was successful in the removal of abnornal cells from the inside of my cervix and treatment of the loop destroyed the cells on the outside. I was confused as to why she then wanted to get me back in a few weeks and have me asleep to carry out the procedure again, however, my tissue is very small still from treatment that was carried out, however, she is confident all went well which provided me with a sense of easement and relief. My consultant is not discharging me, and is getting me back in a few weeks to carry out a scrap again, which I'm happy about, but a hysterectomy for me right now would not be an option.
