Upper Endoscopy

Thought I would share as i read so many other people's experiences on this forum for reassurance before having an upper endoscopy/ gastroscopy myself and what to expect.

As somebody terrified of medical procedures and going to hospital, the appointment wasn't a bad experience at all.
I found the worst part was the build up to the appointment worrying about it and fasting beforehand!
All of the staff was really very very kind and extremely caring, they listened to any concerns I had and was always there.
I opted for throat spray alone but put in a cannula for sedation just in case.

The procedure itself was by all means not pleasant however, the staff there really made the actual procedure manageable without sedation.
The throat spray worked really well for me and before i knew it the camera was in and further down than I thought. There was a lot of wretching however, I never felt I was choking. I also held the nurses hand as this really helped me get through and kept my mind occupied knowing someone was with me.

It was done a lot quicker than I thought it would take and only with little discomfort afterwards, sore throat and some gas but nothing to worry about.

All the staff was amazing and I can't compliment them enough.
