Advice post total hysterectomy

I'm 53 and I had a total hysterectomy including lymph node removal on 7th April 2021 due to a cancerous tumor.

Glad to say it was removed and contained so no chemo or radio.

I feel brilliant and not suffering menopause symptoms as bad as id imagined, however my pubic area (mons) is really numb and feels like it's going lower. Does anyone know if this is normal. I also worry about getting lymphodema.

I would welcome any feedback

Thank you

  • Hello rah50

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's good to know that all went well with your surgery and that you've not needed any further treatment. I'm sure that was a big relief.

In terms of the numbness that you've mentioned, it's worth speaking to your GP or specialist nurse if you have one. It may be a normal part of the surgery that you've had but if there are any concerns about lymphedema then it's best to get on top of that sooner rather than later.

If you'd like to chat to one of our nurses about things then you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm).

    Best wishes,
