PSA velocity rises

I am 63 years old was diagnosed in 2016 with PC I had biopsy which showed 1 core 5% and Gleason score 3+3

My PSA has fluctuated between 6.5 and 7 for past 4 years my alert level was set at 8 by my consultant …  today my PSA is 9.

Can anyone give reassurance or experience of similar PSA velocity rises. I see people on this site with alert levels at 10 to 12. Although I will now hopefully see a consultant again based on my data am I likely to be advised to just carry on with active surveillance ? when is literally the cut off point when you have to consider other options post active surveillance. ?

Many thanks.

  • Hello Harriet999

I'm sorry to hear that your most recent PSA tests have shown a slight rise. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about what this means for you now.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to speak with the Consultant and it may be that after talking with you that they decide to continue with active surveillance a little longer or it may be that they talk to you about possible treatment options.

You might find it helpful to give our team of nurses a call and chat things through with them ahead of your appointment with the Consultant. I'm sure they will be able to give you some information and advice and help you think about any questions that you might want to raise with the Dr.
If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
