Post cancer reconstruction silicone implants leaking

Hi all,

so I have been feeling unwell with varying unexplainable issues (chest pains, breast pains, racing pulse, pain on inhalation and exhalation, jittery, weird, strange sensations, generally not myself, headaches) for about 9 months, my doctor sent me for some tests as I have severe COPD (post chemo) and she was worried I had a blood clot on the lung ( I'd been having breathing problems and chest pains for about 6 weeks, and they just were not improving ) Anyway blood tests, X-ray and CT scan later my X-ray showed no clots, my heart was fine ( dispite having a very high pulse rate, again unexplained) and my lungs rate the same as they were a few years ago with no real changes... however the CT scan picked up that I have enlarged lymph nodes, so having had stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in 2014/15 I was referred over to the breast unit for an ultrasound scan. This happened really quickly, I was seen in 4 days which is amazing, as I'm sure you guys know.. the waiting is the worst.

So I had my ultrasound yesterday by one of the consultants and fantastic news .. the cancer has not returned!.. omg the relief was overwhelming.. but the ultrasound showed that both of my implants were leaking and had leaked silicone into both armpits and both sets of lymph nodes... I was so relieved not to have cancer I didn't really ask any questions, but i have told them I want them removing as I have been really ill for months.

I have been told it is cosmetic, however I dispute this as it is clear to me that this is the reason I have been so ill...

does anyone have any similar stories or any advice.. I just want them out! I have contacted my pulmonary consultant to see if he can influence a quick explant operation. I have also contact my Respiritory/pulmonary team to advise. I also have a consultation with my GP on Friday and I hoping she will push fort his operation to be done quickly.

    Hi JoPuss,

I am so sorry to hear of your symptoms and am glad to hear that you have had them investigated. I can only imagine your relief that the cancer hasn't retrned and am delighted to hear this. Would it help to call your breast care nurse for more information about your leaking implants? If you write down any questions you may have before you talk to her, you won't forget anything important. Surely this is a medical problem if they are making you ill? I hope that you can get this sorted soon.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
