Fast track

Hi I had call from my doctor telling me I'm being fast tracked for colonoscopy

my symptoms are.... anemia extreamly low iron sever bloating restless legs sometimes shortness of breath lots of fresh blood over the past year or so my Pooh when I do go is as thin as a pencil and always feel like I could push out a football but I've not lost no weight

so just wondering how long the fast track will be also will my husband be allowed in with me I've terrible fear/phobia of needles

please someone reply I've no one to talk to xx

  • Just thought I'd pop by and say that fast track does not mean its serious.  Guidelines state that a two week referral be used for breast lumps, persistent cough, blood in stools so please don't panic.  I've had two colonoscopies and neither involved needles, and I'm sure others will drop by and tell you the same.  I doubt at the moment your partner will be allowed in due to covid guidelines and the nurses will be with you to hold your hand and help you.  Hope this will help you a little bit.  Best wishes, Carol

  • Please try not to fear the worst , it's hard I know , my son had exactly those symptoms, it was missed on numerous occasions, he ended up cal lapsing, before they rushed him in to hospital . He had a colonoscopy and they found he had ulcerative colitis, it's at a very bad stage , he is on steroids and strong medication, and have told him eventually he will lose his bowel . He manages his condition, and works full time in construction, but he's still tired and goes to the toilet a lot , he said he's not worried about losing his bowel, as he will adapt. He always thinks positive, I'm so proud.     I sincerely hope your tests come back ok . But if they do come back with something, you have friends on here to help you get through, stay strong, and positive. Thinking of you

  • Oh thank you for your reply your son sounds like an amazing young man! I've two disabled daughters both have cystic fibrosis and my youngest who's now 18 suffers terribly with her bowels she's had numiurous operations first one at 3 hours old she had a stoma bag for over a year that wouldn't bother me in the slightest it's the wait and the needing to know I'm so impatient but like I said I've definitely not lost any weight which that seems to be a key symptom did your son lose weight?

once again thank you so much for replying xxx

  • Oh thank you for taking the time to reply carol you have put me a little bit at ease I'm just so nervous I keep thinking be positive but then there's the what if! Hopefully not long to wait till I find out and to be honest I'm to fat to have it by the sounds of it.... only time I've been ok with being a bit over weight lol

    once again thank you xx
