So worried it's tonsil cancer ☹︎

Good afternoon everyone, my name is clare, I'm 37 and a mum of 3 boys. I'm 4 days post op, I had my left tonsil out due to it being enlarged and I have suffered with ongoing left ear pain and large sore left lymph node (I had my tonsils out as a child but the left one grew back). I have also recently tested positive for HPV after having a routine smear done. I had an MRI with contrast done and the following week the surgeon took out my tonsil and took some tissue from further down my throat to send for biopsy. I've never known pain like this, it's awful, and all I can think about is that I'm going to come back positive for cancer. I was smoking upto 20 a day but have not smoked since the op and intend to stay that way! I used to be a heavy drinker but am now 3 years sober. Please share your experiences with me, I feel it would just help to talk and read others experiences. Thank you x

  • Hi Cushty83,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of what you're going through at the moment - I can understand this must be worrying and not to mention the difficulties following the op.

I hope it's not too long to wait for your results as I know the uncertainty is always difficult, and I do hope the pain eases soon. Do give your doctor a call if you're having difficulties with this.

Hopefully you'll receive further replies to your post soon - if not, do have a browse or a search of the forum for any other potentially relevant discussions to get involved with.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi and thankyou, so my original follow up appointment was supposed to be the 18th, but I had a phonecall earlier today from the hospital to say my results are back and can I come in today! I'm so worried, that just 8 days after my op the results are back and my consultant wants to see me.
